We can live few or more days without food or drink but cannot without breath. Therefore, we all know the importance of breathing. Breathing is foundation of pranayama and pranayama is powerful healing yoga technique that improves quality of life.
What is Pranayama ? Pranayama is a Sanskrit word. Pranayama is composed of two words (1) prana and (2) is ayama. Prana means breath, or life force, or vital energy. And Ayama has various meaning, it means to control, to extend or to draw out. The meaning of full word pranayama is “extension of prana (breath) or extension of life force.
Breathing: There is saying in yoga that “without breathing there is no yoga.” Therefore, before practicing pranayama it is important to understand working and practicing of breathing. Breathing practice makes a foundation for pranayama. Working with the breaths, makes us more sensitive to our internal states of being.
