Hangover: Tips to Recover from Drinking Alcohol
We enjoy friend’s company and alcoholic beverages in parties but sometime it overdrinking causes adverse effect on our body and brain, that condition is called hangover. There are some home remedies and precautions can prevent, reduce or cure hangover.
What are alcoholic beverages?
Any drink that have significant amount of ethanol is called alcoholic beverage, such as Beer, Wine, Whisky, Vodka, Brandy, Rum, Gin, Toddy, Tequila, Maoti, Shake, Cocktail and other Liqueurs.What Causes Hangover:
1. Alcohol (ethanol) first absorbs into stomach and then passes to liver. Liver enzyme converts ethanol to acetaldehyde and then different enzyme (glutathione) concert acetaldehyde to acetate. So if we drink too much glutathione run out and acetaldehyde did not convert into acetate. Then the concentration of acetaldehyde increases in our body. Acetaldehyde is 10 -30 times more toxic than ethanol.2. As alcohol (ethanol) enters in our brain it start interacts with brain cells (neurons). Ethanol suppresses glutamate transmission and enhances GABA transmission in brain cells, resulting information flow slow down. It means you feel less, notice less, perceive less and remember less.
Causes:
Too much alcohol in our body causes(1) Irritate inner wall of stomach, which causes nausea, vomiting, flatulence (gas), diarrhea.
(2) Alcohol suppresses production of anti-diuretic hormone (Vasopressin), it means our body cannot retain of water and excessive urination start that causes dehydration, headache, dry mouth, and body weakness.
(3) It also affects brain, which reduces our concentration / focus, short temper, sensitivity to light and sound (sensory perception).
(4) Depression and anxiety.
Home Remedy:
1. Eat bananas, apple and eggs, it reduces hangover2. Drink fresh fruit juice and coconut water
3. Boil one cup of water with some ginger pieces, and then add one table spoon lemon juice and honey, mix well and drink two or three times
4. Chew a piece of ginger two - three time in a day to prevent nausea
5. Take a cup of water add two table spoon lemon juice and one table spoon honey, drink regularly
6. Take half cup of tomato juice and half cup of coriander leaves juice mix it well and drink two – three times 7. Drink buttermilk (Chach) with honey
8. Take a cup of black coffee and add four table spoon lemon juices and drink it. Precaution does not drink coffee without lemon juice.
9. Eat rice, soup and toast
10. Drink green tea with lemon and honey
11. Sleep well
Precautions:
1. Drink water before drinking alcohol
2. Know your limit of alcohol drinks
3. Do not drink alcohol on an empty stomach
4. Alternate alcohol drinking with a non-alcoholic drink such as water
5. Eat some vegetables between your drinks
6. Do not drink alcohol too fast
7. Eat fatty food, starchy (carbohydrate) food and snakes while drinking alcohol
8. Do not drink or eat any sweet while drinking alcohol
9. Avoid pain killers
10. Never - never drive the vehicle after drinking alcohol
11. Often medical doctor recommend “Antabuse” (disulfiram), Chaser, PreToxx and RU 21 etc.
