Tips on Bad Breath (Halitosis) Gone Your bad breath can be caused by many reasons such as bacterial activities, poor dental and oral hygiene, digestive disorders etc. Bad breath causes social embarrassment and can develop some diseases. There are many simple remedies may be available in your home to cure and prevent your bad breath. 


How to Detect Bad Breath: At home you can lick the back of the wrist, let the saliva dry for a minute or two, and smell. If you feel bad smell (like a rotten egg) or ask your spouse, family member, or close friend to give you an honest opinion. 

Symptoms: Bad breath of your mouth can be characterize by unpleasant odour, dry mouth, bad taste, coating on tongue and social embarrassing 

Cause: Bad breath can be caused by many reasons such as bacterial activities produce sulfur containing compounds in your mouth, poor dental and oral hygiene, chewing tobacco, smoking, eating cabbage, onion, garlic cheese, spicy food, alcohol and caffeine, high intake of vitamin supplement, Illnesses such as infected tooth, digestive disorders, sinus and respiratory tract infections, acid reflux and others. 

Home Remedy: 

1. Drink plenty of water and rinse your mouth with water 

2. Rinse your mouth with lemon water 

3. Chew parsley or mint leaves, they are natural deodorizer 

4. Chew two - three cardamom seeds 

5. Mix together dill, anise and fennel seeds and occasionally chew them 6. Suck on a piece of a clove after meal 

7. Drink mint tea 

8. Eating apple or guava or yogurt after your meal, freshen your breath 

9. When you are on go, suck on peppermint, eucalyptus or sugarless candies 

10. Brush your teeth using “Neem plant” stick tooth brush 

11. Add two table spoon of cinnamon powder into a glass of water and mix well. Use this mixture to rinse your mouth regularly and then rinse with water 

12. Take one or one and half tea spoon coconut oil and mix in your mouth for 2 min to clean your mouth then rinse your mouth with lukewarm water 

13. Add one table spoon of cinnamon powder, one bay leaf and few cardamom (grinded) into a glass of water and boil for 2 min. Cool the mixture to room temperature and use this mixture regularly to rinse your mouth and then rinse with water 

14. Mix ten-drops of peppermint oil and ten-drops of tea tree oil into a glass of water (approximately 200 milliliters). Store this mixture in a bottle and rise your mouth you sleep 

15. Add two drops of each chamomile, peppermint, sage, or lemon balm oil to a glass of water and rinse your mouth with it 

16. Add one table spoon of fenugreek (methi) seeds into a glass of water and boil for 2 min. Filter the mixture and cool the water mixture room temperature and drink this mixture regularly. It will help to remove bad breath due to gastric infection 

17. For morning breath, add 1 table spoon cider vinegar in a glass of water and rinse right after getting out of bed 

Prevention:  

1. Brush your teeth two times a day (one in the morning and another before sleep). Remove food particles, stuck in-between the teeth 

2. Flossing (cleaning the space between your teeth) teeth regularly helps to remove plaque and food particles in places where your tooth brush cannot easily reach 

3. Clean your tongue using brush or tongue scraper before going to sleep 

4. If your bad breath due to faulty hygine or diet it can be cured by above methods. But, if you have sever or persistent bad breath dentist can fix the problem 

5. Have a regular visit to your dentist for dental and oral cleaning
