Onychomycosis or nail fungus is caused by fungi which are tiny, microscopic organisms that grow in warm, moist areas. There is a tendency for fungi to grow between your toes and nails because we often forget or cannot completely dry the areas between toes or if water slips between slight cracks in nails. Wearing socks, tight shoes etc raises the temperature for it to be moist and warm, fungi finds it the best place to grow and culture. Nail fungus home remedy is what you need rid yourself from nail fungus.

Fungus is more commonly found in toenails than fingernails, and the reason is that your hands are exposed to air more than your feet as we keep them covered with socks or shoes most of the time. Another reason for it to be more common in toenails may be that there is less blood circulation to the toes and thus the body does not detect and alien invasion as quickly.

Symptoms:

Nail fungus starts off as yellow spots on or around the nails and toes and it can spread rapidly. As the nail fungus thrives and goes deeper into your nails the color starts becoming deeper becoming almost brown or black. It can also cause the nail to become hard and brittle, breaking off in chips.

In severe cases, the nail may become separate from the nail bed which can be very painful and also start giving off a foul odor.

Causes:

Fungi can seep through cracks and tiny cuts around your nails, even those which are invisible to the naked eye. Fungi can even invade if there is a small gap between nail and nail bed especially if the conditions are favorable i.e. warm and moist. These tiny micro organisms will cause a problem to you if your hands and feet are constantly wet and the temperature is favorable.

Nail fungus as discussed earlier thrives in moist and warmer places like most fungi, therefore the main causes for nail fungus would be:
