Home Remedy for Burns: Treating Minor Burns Make Your Own

Make your own home remedy for burns to have on hand in case of a minor emergency.

Lavender Oil
Burns happen all the time in households and can occur due to a variety of causes such as hot oil, fire, electrical appliances and overexposure to the sun. Burns can cause immediate pain and can qualify as a medical emergency if they are large or have damaged blood vessels. You can make your own home remedy for burns that are not of the third-degree by using some common kitchen ingredients lying around.

One of the most important things to remember is to never treat a burn with ice cold water, as this will damage just as many cells as extreme heat will. Rinse off the burn with cool water before applying any of these burn home remedy options.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a succulent plant that is used in a variety of herbal medicines. It is used for a number of purposes because of its cooling and soothing properties, including as a laxative, for digestive problems, burns, psoriasis and even improving blood glucose levels in diabetics. Aloe plants grow anywhere and because of their numerous uses, it is helpful to keep one in the home. They also require very little maintenance and they don't even need any watering! It is best for the treatment of first and second degree burns and you can make your home remedy for burns when used as follows:

  • Put aloe gel (or squeeze an aloe leaf is gel is not available) directly on the burn.
  • Hold an ice cube over the gel.
  • The aloe gel will reduce any blisters and stinging from the burning, while cooling it down with an ice cube will make it heal faster.

Potatoes

Readily available in your kitchen, potatoes make for a great quick burn home remedy. Although the science behind its use in treating burns has not been proven, many people around the world swear by the potato when it comes to easily handling small burns from the kitchen.

  • Cut an uncooked potato into thin slices.
  • Put these slices on top of the burn and use a bandage to keep the slice in place.
  • Remove the slice once your skin has absorbed all of the potato juice.

This method quickly takes away the pain and reduces any blistering and redness that might occur as a result of the burn. You can repeat this as many times as you need to until your burn has healed.

Lavender Oil

Gently dab on Lavender oil onto the burnt area. This burn home remedy will instantly help in soothing the burning sensation. However, depending on the type of burn it is, applying it some several times in day will help leave not a single mark or scar.

Home remedy for burns is only effective if it is a first degree burn.
