Delicious and Appetizing Garlic Bread Recipe

Garlic is easy to grow and can be cultivated just about anywhere and in any climate. China is the largest producer of garlic worldwide and in the United States the most garlic is grown in Gilroy, California. Garlic has a strong taste and a pungent smell which isn't as pleasant as the aromas of other herbs, but its taste when cooked is incomparable when added to a garlic bread recipe.

Garlic Bread
Who doesn't love a great garlic bread recipe? It can be eaten as a side dish or as a meal in itself. Fresh Italian bread, straight from the oven, toasted with crushed garlic, olive oil and butter is divine. It gets even better if you top it with mozzarella cheese or parmesan cheese! The more adventurous can stir fry some mushrooms to add, or chop up some fresh tomatoes and parsley to sprinkle on top.

Required Ingredients:

  • 1 large loaf freshly baked Italian bread seasoned with oregano
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1 ½ teaspoons freshly chopped oregano
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the bread into 1 ½ inch thick slices. In a small bowl, mix the butter, olive oil, freshly chopped oregano, and garlic. Add a dash of the mixture to the bread and place on a cooking tray lightly sprayed with non-stick cooking oil. Allow to bake in the oven for about five minutes, until lightly toasted. Watch carefully and make sure the toast does not brown yet. Take out the tray and sprinkle with the grated mozzarella cheese. Pop back in the oven and remove when the cheese has melted or the toast becomes golden brown. Remove, let cool, and enjoy the buttery delicious garlic bread recipe.

Origin of garlic

The origin of garlic has not been sufficiently documented. It is thought to have descended from Allium longiscuspis, which originated in southwestern Asia and is still found there in the wild and is cultivated as well.

The use of garlic dates as far back as the pyramids of Giza. It was fed to the workers building the pyramid because it was thought to make them grow stronger in spite of the hard, grueling work they were doing. The use of garlic was mentioned in the Bible. Hippocrates used it for home remedies against lethargy, parasites, and easing digestion. It was used in China as late as fifteen hundred years ago.

Garlic was not often used in traditional English Cuisine hundreds of years ago, but has been used for that long in Mediterranean cuisine, which is why there are so many garlic recipes and even garlic bread recipes originating from Italy, where the Romans roamed back then!

Benefits of using Garlic Bread Recipe

Garlic also contains antioxidants which fight carcinogens and free radicals, boosting immunity and helping fight cancer.

The greatest health benefit of eating garlic is its ability to fight heart disease. It helps prevent high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Garlic supplements reduce the accumulation of cholesterol in blood vessels. Less cholesterol means less arthrosclerosis and plaque formation. This results in lower blood pressure and lower risks of embolus, strokes, and heart attacks.

Garlic has several health benefits. It is most potent when eaten fresh or used in food in its crushed form. Raw garlic is best, but it is difficult to incorporate pungent, raw garlic in a garlic bread recipe, or any other recipe for that matter. Its taste is best when the garlic is cooked; raw garlic is not appreciated by many!
